India remembered Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore on his death anniversary, with tributes highlighting the lasting place of his work in the country’s cultural and intellectual life.
According to Akashvani News, Union Home Minister Amit Shah paid tribute to Tagore and recalled the continuing influence of the poet, philosopher, composer and educator.
Tagore became the first Asian recipient of the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1913. His poems, songs, essays and educational ideas helped shape modern Indian thought while also introducing Indian literature to readers around the world.
His compositions include India’s national anthem, Jana Gana Mana, and Bangladesh’s national anthem, Amar Sonar Bangla. The institutions and cultural traditions associated with him continue to connect literature, music, learning and public life.
The anniversary is an occasion to revisit Tagore’s emphasis on creativity, human dignity and education. His work remains part of classrooms, performances and public commemorations across India.
